- High security
- Trustworthy Amazon brand name

Cons

Wickr hasn’t got much to prove really, since it’s one of the most popular secure messaging apps there is, especially among business owners. The encryption is military grade, and Wickr is trusted with some of the most sensitive information you can imagine. As you may know, Wickr is owned by Amazon, which should do nothing if not let you know just how trustworthy it is. Wickr’s extremely high security is what makes it such a popular sexting app, since you’re unlikely to have your private conversations leaked, hacked or otherwise compromised. Let’s dive in and have a good look at what Wickr can do for you.
Wickr presentation
Wickr is hugely popular, with the “AWS Wickr” Smartphone app boasting over 2000 ratings on the app store and over 4,7 stars, it’s hard to beat. Why are users so overwhelmingly happy with their experience on Wickr? Let’s find out together.
Wickr is the app to end all sexting apps. When we say app, we don’t necessarily mean phone app: there’s a desktop version and a smartphone version, and both require download and installation. The smartphone version is called “AWS Wickr”, and is the perfect companion to keep your conversations private on the go. Note that since Wickr doesn’t have any community based features, all the efforts from the development team are concentrated on making Wickr the most secure it can possibly be, so don’t worry, your information is all totally safe. Let’s take a look at how to install and use Wickr.
Wickr review: how to install the app
If you want to use Wickr on your computer, you’ll first need to download it. Click on any of the links on this page to go through to the Wickr homepage: there, you’ll see the “Download Wickr” button. Click on the button to start the download. Once the installation files have finished downloading, simply click on the file to open it and follow installation and setup. The process is very simple, and should only take a few minutes.
If you want to install Wickr on your phone, head on over to the App Store for iPhone users, or Google Play if you have an Android, and search for AWS Wickr. Click “download”, and wait for installation to finish. Again, this is super easy and should only take a couple of minutes.
How Wickr works: getting started
Something important to not about Wickr, is that as we’ve already mentioned, there’s no “Wickr community” as it were. Instead, Wickr is just a messaging app with high security. Therefore, explaining how it works is relatively simple. Once you’ve installed the app, you’ll be asked to sign in or sign up. Click on “Sign up” to get the ball rolling. Choose whether to do a quick guest account, or a full setup. Whichever you choose, you’ll be given a master recovery key to keep safe – make sure to save this key, as if you forget your password, this key is the only way to restore access to your account.
Once you’ve done this, just verify your email and you’re good to go. With Wickr, you can send messages and make video calls to one or multiple recipients at once. It’s a pretty popular app for business owners too, since they can keep all discussions private and have group discussions with multiple employees at once.

Wickr review: what features does Wickr have?
Moving swiftly along, perhaps the most important thing to note in any Wickr review is what its different features and functionalities are. Let’s dive in and take a look at what Wickr has to offer users and what makes it so special.
Military Grade Encryption
So as you may already know, end-to-end encryption is the process of turning a message to unreadable ciphertext on the outgoing device, and unscrambling it when it’s received. Any good secure messaging app provides end-to-end encryption, but the quality of Wickrs’ encryption is unparalleled. Not only are all messages scrambled, but every call and communication is encrypted with a new, random key, that’s completely impossible to crack.
Screenshot notifications
Every time you take a screenshot, the person you’re talking to will be notified – and vice versa. This makes it very easy to know what is potentially compromised, and by whom. If someone proves to be untrustworthy by taking multiple screenshots, simply block them with Wickrs’ blocking feature.
Ephemeral messaging
All messages disappear after a certain amount of time automatically – and you can change the amount of time it takes for them to disappear if you’re nervous. The default setting is 30 days, so make sure to change it if you’re worried about being snooped on!
Does Wickr have community features?
As we’ve already mentioned, unfortunately, Wickr does not have a community tab or any features that allow you to meet people through Wickr itself. Much like apps such as Zoosk (read our zoosk review) or Dust, Wickr is simply a high quality messaging app that allows its users to converse with people they already know in a safe environment.
If you’re looking for an app you can use on your phone and on your desktop that provides military grade security and privacy, Wickr is the place to take all of your conversations to. Whether you’re hiding something from your wife or are just concerned with being watched, Wickr will keep everything safe.
Wickr review: accounts and pricing
AWS Wickr has a two different account types: standard and premium – note that neither are free. Let me explain.
Wickr Standard provides users with unlimited storage, admin controls, and a time limit on data expiration of up to three months. It’s the “basic” tier that provides you with all the tools you need to keep your conversations private for a smaller price.
Wickr Premium is slightly more impressive than the Standard option: you get everything you get on a standard plan, but with a few more perks such a data expiration duration of up to one year, bigger attachments, more controls, etc.
There’s also a “Wickr Enterprise” option, but that’s not what we’re talking about today, since we know you’re just looking for somewhere safe to sext.
You may want to start by taking advantage of the free trial plan: it’s a slightly more simplified version of the standard plan, and you can use this for up to three months before deciding if you want to take the plunge and subscribe. If you do decide to subscribe to Wickr, here’s a breakdown of pricing:
- Wickr Standard: $5 a month
- Wickr Premium: $15 a month
There are no other subscription options at this time.
Wickr review: pros and cons
The best way to do a full Wickr review is to make a simple pros and cons list. Let’s work our way to the final verdict by first recalling some of the best and worst things about Wickr, and why this app is so popular for all your private sexting needs.
As you can see, Wickr has some pretty great things about it, and some less favourable characteristics. If you want the highest possible security, it’s going to cost a bit more than some other apps with less high-quality encryption.
Wickr review: my final verdict
To bring this review to a close, I think it’s first important to remind you that Wickr is not a hookup site like BeNaughty for example (read my full BeNaughty review next!). You won’t be able to meet loose, local singles, or even find a sexting partner on the actual Wickr app. As previously mentioned, the app is targeted at all kinds of users, such as business owners and people in high places that need to keep all conversations private.
However, if you already have contacts with whom you tend to let things get a little spicy (and would rather keep those conversations entirely private), Wickr is the sexting app with the best quality encryption and highest security on the market. Simply install the app on your phone and / or desktop, and try the 3-month free trial to see if it’s the solution to your problems. Wickrs multiple plans mean that there’s a good option for all users, whatever you intend to do with it.
Personally, I think Wickr is a solid 10/10, and I don’t regret subscribing to the standard plan. I still use the app every day, both on my phone and my computer, so I can’t in all good faith not recommend Wickr to anyone who values security and privacy.
